The CHAMPION project recognises the importance of personal privacy and ensures that all personal data is held in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018. We would like to inform you of the scope and purpose of the personal data we collect on our project website, use and process as well as the rights the data subject through this data protection regulation.

Our Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline by the CHAMPION project or via channels other than this website.

This website was created and is managed by the University of York, and as such uses personal data in full accordance with the general privacy policy of the University of York.

Information collected

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use or navigate the website. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, language preferences, referring URLs, country and location. We also use Google Analytics to measure and collect session information, including page response times, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information, and methods used to browse away from the page.

 

If you choose to sign up for our mailing list, then only the data we ask you to enter will be stored e.g. we won't augment this with information about other pages you have browsed on the web site.

Why do we collect this information

This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our website, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes. The legal basis for this processing is necessity to pursue our legitimate interests to keep our website secure.

 

If you sign up to receive further communications from us, we collect your data solely to provide the service or information you have requested i.e. to send you the newsletter, send you further information about the project, etc. We don't use your data for any kind of profiling or subsequent marketing.

How do we store your personal information

The CHAMPION project website is hosted on the Wix.com platform. Your data may be stored through Wix.com’s data storage, databases and the general Wix.com applications. They store your data on secure servers behind a firewall.

 

If you sign up to our mailing list then your email address and any associated contact preferences will be stored by our email campaign provider: Mailchimp.com. Mailchimp store data on servers located in the United States. Our contract with MailChimp requires them to provide the same safeguards and data protection rights for our users as they would have if the data was stored in the EU. We use MailMunch to create user friendly sign-up forms with double-opt-in mechanisms to ensure that we capture, as per GDPR, the exact details of your registration and to ensure that no third-party uses your email address to sign up to our newsletter without your knowledge and consent. MailMunch fully complies with GDPR. We only use MailMunch for the purpose of designing the sign-up forms, but data will be transferred to our MailChimp account, where the data is stored.

What if I change my mind?

You can withdraw your consent to us storing and using your data at any time. In the case of your newsletter subscription you can simply use the "unsubscribe" link contained in every newsletter email. Alternatively, you can email your request to projectmanager@champion-project.eu

Third parties

 

Apart from if we should be required to do so by law, we will not give or sell your data to anyone else.

 

If you have signed up to our mailing list then your details will be passed to our third party email campaign provider (see "How do we store your personal information" above). However, your data remains under the CHAMPION Project's strict control. The service provider is bound by a tight contract which prevents them from using or passing on the data for anything other than providing this service to us.

How long do we keep your data?

We determine the storage period of personal data according to the respective statutory retention period. Personal data is kept for as long as the data is needed for the purpose of storage or as far as it is granted by European and national legislation. The personal data stored by us is routinely blocked or erased if the purpose for storage is no longer applicable or the storage period as prescribed by European and national legislation expires.

 

If you sign up to our mailing list we will keep your details for as long as you remain a subscriber. If you unsubscribe then we will delete your details immediately.
